The two largest Italian communities outside of Italy have decided to act jointly to defend the rights of descendants. This collaboration unites Brazil and Argentina in a common strategy after years of separate action.

The coordination takes place within the South American Union of Italian Immigrants. (I USED)The structure was officially unveiled last Thursday, the 9th, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The center-right party is chaired by Eugenio SangregorioThe businessman and TV presenter Marcelo Fragali He assumes the vice-presidency. The former congressman and businessman Luis Roberto Lorenzato, (formerly Lega, owned by Matteo Salvini) will be responsible for the overall coordination of the campaign.

End of political fragmentation

Marcelo de Carvalho states that the lack of coordination between the countries contributed to recent losses. “The movement stems from the fact that the two largest Italian communities outside of Italy are in Brazil and Argentina. Together, we number around 50 million people of Italian descent, but historically, these communities acted in a completely separate and disorganized manner. Argentina electing its representatives, Brazil its own, without any common strategic coordination,” he told Italianismo.

He says the priority is to reverse measures that have undermined the principle of jus sanguinis"Faced with the attack on our rights, the need for coordination to unify Brazil and Argentina around a common agenda became evident. To create a structure for coordinated action, with leadership and strategy," he explains.

Resistance to the Tajani Decree

The movement emerged as a response to initiatives in Rome that limited the right of bloodlines. Luis Roberto Lorenzato He claims that internal pressures within the Italian government are not a recent phenomenon.

"The Farnesina [Ministry of Foreign Affairs] tried to approve the same clauses of the Tajani Decree back in 2019. At the time, I managed to intercept the text and remove terms that would harm the descendants," reports the former congressman.

Lorenzato also criticizes the current conduct of Italian foreign policy. “They say that Italian law is unique in the world, which is a lie. All countries in the European Union follow the right of blood. The problem is that Italy hasn't realized the power it has abroad. Therefore, this union of ours is not symbolic, it's decisive,” he states.

Strategy beyond the legal field.

The group intends to expand its activities beyond legal defense. The proposal includes strengthening economic relations between Italy and its diaspora.

Marcelo de Carvalho states that Italian bureaucracy limits investments. “The future we advocate for is not just legal. It is economic, institutional, and strategic. We need mechanisms to…” 'fast track' "And access to the financial system for people of Italian descent," he says.

“We are talking about building a new cycle of relationship between Italy and the diaspora, focusing on attracting investment. For example, in the United States alone there are more than 1 trillion reais (200 billion dollars) in Brazilian investments, while in Italy this volume is insignificant. Why not in Italy? Due to the absurd bureaucracy,” he said.

The union between the movement Nazione Popolo Italico and the party USEI It brings together a base of 2,5 million citizens registered with AIRE.

“Politics works on the basis of checks and balances. Whenever a right is taken away, it is because there was not enough force to prevent it. And, in the case of Italian descendants, the central problem is evident: the total lack of effective representation in the Italian Parliament,” says Marcelo de Carvalho.

According to him, the current representatives have no access to or influence over the central decisions of the Italian government. “And politics isn't resolved with events, debates, or symbolic demonstrations. Politics is resolved with the ability to block harmful initiatives, the ability to promote favorable measures, and an effective presence in the centers of decision-making. That's why this united front of ours isn't symbolic, it's decisive,” Fragali concludes.

All things considered, I can't trust any of them. They're like other Brazilian politicians; they disappear after the elections and start reappearing and making deceptive propaganda shortly before the next election. They don't answer emails or attend to voters in South America. Deceitful and liars. I hope that in the next election we voters in this region will not re-elect them.
