The largest amount was found in the white masks or on the inside. The highest levels were found in surgical masks.
O titanium dioxide is an additive, which comes in the form of a colorless crystalline powder, used mainly in cosmetics and by industry as a whitener.
In 2006, the chemical was defined by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” when inhaled.
In October last year, the European Union released a statement to member countries classifying titanium dioxide as “probably carcinogenic”, that is, a substance belonging to category 2 (whenever inhaled).
