The decision was made this Tuesday, January 20th, with the justification that the magistrates did not have enough time to examine the information related to the arrest of the former parliamentarian.
The process should be resumed. in the first half of February.
Carla Zambelli was sentenced by the Supreme Federal Court to ten years in prison for hacking into the electronic system of the National Council of Justice in 2023. After the conviction, she left the country and sought asylum in Italy. where she was arrested in July, following an extradition request made by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice.
The former congresswoman holds dual citizenship, and her defense maintains her innocence, while also questioning the conditions of Brazilian prisons.
According to the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF), if extradited, Zambelli will have to serve her sentence at the Federal District Women's Penitentiary, known as Colmeia. The Brazilian Court stated that the prison offers adequate conditions of health, security, and assistance, including medical care and technical courses.
Last December, Zambelli was also sentenced to five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful coercion. The incident occurred in 2022, when she chased an armed man through the streets of São Paulo on the eve of the second round of elections.
