A group of young people protested in front of the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome's most popular attractions, against "food crimes" committed by tourists in Italy.
Armed with posters with slogans like “No more cream in carbonara","Not cappuccino with pasta"and "Adding chicken to pasta is a crime in Italy”, the protesters drew the attention of a crowd of tourists about habits they consider wrong.
The protest comes in the wake of complaints from Roman restaurant owners against tourist orders that mischaracterize typical Italian dishes.
Some posted messages on social media stating that they would never serve cappuccino – a drink normally consumed in the morning – at dinner.
“I live in New York and I see Italian cuisine revisited every day, so I can’t accept seeing this here in Italy,” said Nicolas Calia, the protest’s creator.
Recently, a survey revealed the eating habits most hated by Italians, who cited practices such as putting ketchup on pasta or pineapple on pizza, as well as putting pasta in a pan with cold water and breaking the spaghetti before cooking. (ANSA)
