According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, Brazilian Adriana Linhares de Lucena, 44, girlfriend of businessman Valter Lavitola, said she does not believe he ordered the bomb to be placed in front of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci's house. In a wiretapped conversation from July 5th, Lavitola speaks to her in Portuguese, calls her "my love," and says he could end up in prison for years, and that everyone already considers him the perpetrator of the attack. She received the last message sent by the businessman before his arrest.
Adriana has lived in Rome for two decades and runs a beauty salon on Via Fasana, currently closed for vacation and scheduled to reopen on September 14th. She says the two have known each other since February, months after the explosion, introduced by a mutual friend. On August 10th, the date of Lavitola's arrest, she was summoned by the Prosecutor's Office. She told investigators that she only learned about the bomb after the case had already become public knowledge.
According to her, Lavitola had "deep gratitude" for Ranucci, who had even helped him with the treatment of his autistic son. Regarding the attack, she claims that he told her he wasn't responsible. Lavitola later admitted to the judge that he was the mastermind, claiming he acted to reinforce the protection of his friend.
