Since last Thursday, it has been happening in Rio dos Cedros, in Santa Catarina, the 32nd Trentino Festival, with the theme “Ritorno alle radici” (Return to the roots), in homage to the 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil. The event, with free entry, takes place at the Events Center of Cedars River.
The event, which spans two weekends, continues with festivities next weekend (September 12-15), attracting residents and descendants of Italian immigrants who return to the city to celebrate their origins.
The idea for the theme was suggested by the lawyer and writer Andrey Fraga, who highlighted the meaning of this return to roots: “The first meaning of this theme is for people who were born and raised in Rio dos Cedros and ended up leaving here. Many come to the party every year, so there is this meaning of returning home, of having the feeling of being home again”, he explained.
Fraga also highlighted the historical importance of Rio dos Cedros in the Italian colonization of Brazil. “Our city formed one of the first colonies, with Italians who came directly from Italy to here,” he said, highlighting the city’s pioneering role.
The annual event reinforces the municipality's commitment to preserving its traditions, promoting language, culture and typical Italian cuisine.
