Latest numbers bring an optimistic, but cautious, scenario for the country

The government, experts and health professionals are eagerly awaiting the Italian Civil Protection bulletin with the number of people infected with Covid-19, which will be released at 18pm (14pm Brasília time).

It is still early, but the trend of new infections in Italy is decreasing slightly. The curve stopped growing in the latest figures released on Monday afternoon (16): 2470 new positives, less than Sunday, when the daily increase was 2.853.

According to the data, in Italy there are a total of 23.073 coronavirus patients. The total number of infected people – including victims and recoveries – reached 27.980.

“It’s a drop, even though we don’t have the numbers for Apulia and Trento. But the trend is decreasing, as is also happening in Lombardy. We recorded this,” said Angelo Borrelli, director of the Department of Civil Protection.

Confirmations are needed in the next bulletins, but Italy hopes to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
