“Like father, like son.”
This is the ideal quote to define the career of Italian singer Matteo Bocelli, who inherited the artistic DNA of his father, the tenor Andrea, and performs in Brazil this week with his first solo tour and a repertoire that promises to move the audience.
Titled “A Night With Matteo”, the series of shows will include performances at Vivo Rio, in Rio de Janeiro, on October 8th, and at Sala São Paulo, in the capital of São Paulo, on the 9th, in a mix of rhythms involving pop, classical and great hits of Italian music.
In an interview with ANSA, Matteo said he was “very excited” to sing alone in Brazil, after having performed last May with his father, and assured that he was “ready for this incredible experience”.
“Singing solo gives me the opportunity to express my musical identity and connect with the audience in a different way,” he revealed, emphasizing that “expectations are high” because he knows “how much Brazilians love music.”
Matteo also highlighted that Brazilian fans "are a warm and lively people" with a "contagious passion for music."
“I can’t wait to sing and experience these magical moments together.”
During the shows, the public will have the opportunity to hear several compositions from the artist's debut album, “Matteo”, which features songs in English and Italian, such as “Solo”, the first single released by the singer, and “Chasing Stars”, written in partnership with Ed Sheeran.
Among the pop songs, Matteo will also perform the hits “Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You” by Frankie Valli, “Titanium” by Sai, as well as the Italian classic “Caruso” by Lucio Dalla.
In addition to Brazil, Bocelli's son has confirmed shows until December in cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.
“The tour has been incredible. It’s a great opportunity to grow as an artist and get to know my audience better,” celebrated Matteo, confirming that the “response has been very warm and encouraging,” which “gives him even more energy to keep improving.”
At just 26 years old and with a career influenced by his father, the Italian explores themes of self-confidence and personal relationships in his songs, which combine the depth of opera with the appeal of contemporary pop.
He told ANSA that there is “some pressure” for having followed the same path as Bocelli, but that he sees “this as a source of motivation”, especially because his “father is an extraordinary artist”.
“Music has always been a part of my life. Growing up in a family where music was central, it was natural for me to develop this passion,” added Matteo, who is fascinated by Brazilian music, with “its rhythm and its soul.”
“Brazil is a fascinating country, with a very rich musical culture, and each visit leaves a deep impression. I fell in love with the energy and passion that we feel here. I hope to return as often as possible,” he said.HANDLE)
