Carlo Formosa, Ambassador of Italy to Portugal, emphasized the importance of the Italian community in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, highlighting its fundamental role in economic activities, especially in the tourism industry, which plays a vital role in the island's economy.

Formosa shared his observations during a hearing with the president of Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues.
According to the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), in 2019, there were 18.862 Italians living in Portugal.

This number has increased in recent years, reflecting the growing attraction that Portugal, including Madeira Island, has on Italian citizens in search of quality of life and economic opportunities in a welcoming and paradisiacal environment.
