Brazilians living in Italy and Italians in Brazil are about to experience a significant simplification in the process of converting their National Driver's Licenses (CNH).
This Monday, July 15th, during the visit of Italian president Sergio Mattarella to Brazil, a new bilateral agreement will be signed between the countries, marking a new era of cooperation in international mobility.
The new pact, kept in a drawer for several months for a political act, will be formalized at an event at Palácio do Planalto, where Italian president Sergio Mattarella will be received by the Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to 10h30.
The agreement, which comes into force immediately, resolves an issue that has been dragging on since the end of 2022, when the previous agreement expired. During this period, many Brazilians faced difficulties driving in Italy due to the lack of automatic recognition of the Brazilian driver's license.
It simplifies the process of converting the Brazilian CNH to the Italian one through the Civil Motorization Offices (UMC) in the Italian provinces, providing a bureaucratic relief significant for resident Brazilian citizens.
For tourists, the rules are the same: it is allowed to drive with the original driving license from the country of origin for up to 180 days in Brazil, as long as it is accompanied by an International Driving Permit (PID) or a sworn translation into Italian of the card.
