Every year, the “Oscar of cycling” in Italy crowns the Italian “green paths” that stand out in the two-wheel tourism, also characterized by natural beauty, history and investments made in the cycling sector.
A prestigious award for the most interesting projects across the Peninsula.
In first place in the 2021 edition is Green Road dell'Acqua (Green Road dell'Acqua), in the province of Trento, and the Ciclovia dei Parchi in Calabria.
Followed by Ciclovia del Sole em Emilia Romagna, second in the ranking, and the Grande Anello dei Borghi Ascolani de Marche on the lowest step of the podium.
The most beautiful cycle paths in Italy
A Green Road dell'Acqua, in the province of Trento, was crowned first place because of the “commitment, tenacity and laborious execution of the project in an area that has invested in the organization and promotion of cycle paths for decades and which today has an extensive and valuable network of cycle paths”.
Different reasons, but the same result for the Ciclovia dei Parchi della Calabria, inserted first together with the route of the province of Trento.
The 545 kilometers that connect Laino Borgo, in the province of Cosenza a Reggio Calabria, were awarded for “the Region's commitment to a project to improve sustainable tourism and slow mobility with a focus on four wonderful and intact protected areas, and on towns and cities that well embody the spirit of Calabria”.
Second place for Ciclovia del Sole in Emilia Romagna: a 64-kilometer route built on the old railway that connected Bologna to Verona, on the stretch between Mirandola and the Emilian capital. The project was awarded because of the recovery of abandoned railway seats and the reconversion of the Euro Velo 7 route.
On the lowest step of the podium, on the other hand, we find the Large Ring from Borghi Ascolani a 100-kilometer cycle path that connects Ascoli Piceno to interior cities.
The route won third place at the Cycling Oscars for “the ability of Marche Region in articulating some of the most significant historical and artistic realities of the region with a view to slow and sustainable tourism”.
