Where do people earn the most in Italy? The numbers show large differences between professional categories. Below are the data from the INPS Statistical Observatory on salaried workers in the private sector, classified according to average annual income.

Civil construction, health and services

At the bottom of the list, with the lowest salaries among the sectors analyzed, are the following areas:

• Construction industry, with an average annual salary of 22.106 euros.
• Health and social assistance, 18.720 euros
• Other service activities, 17.527 euros
• Rental, travel agencies and business support services, 16.485 euros
• Education, which includes substitute teachers from public schools, 16.451 euros
• Family and community activities, 16.149 euros
• Artistic, sporting and entertainment activities, 15.628 euros
• Accommodation and food services, 11.233 euros

Transportation and storage

The sector appears in eighth place, with an average annual salary of 27.199 euros. Next come real estate activities with 25.739 euros, while wholesale and retail trade and vehicle repair occupy tenth place, with 23.577 euros per year.

Professional, scientific and technical activities

In seventh place are professional, scientific and technical activities. There are over 629 workers in this sector with an average annual salary of €28.555, according to INPS.

Water supply and waste management

The sector ranks sixth with an average annual remuneration of 30.524 euros.

Manufacturing activities

In fifth place are manufacturing activities. The average annual salary is 32.487 euros. In 2024, the sector registered more than four million workers and an average of 277 paid days per year.

Information and communication services

Fourth place goes to information and communication services, with over 600 workers and an average annual salary of €35.227. This figure represents a 1,2 percent decrease compared to 2023.

Supply of electricity and gas

The sector ranks third, with an average annual salary of 50.015 euros.

Mineral extraction

In second place is the mineral extraction sector in quarries and mines. In 2024, 28.215 workers were registered, with an average remuneration of 51.530 euros per year, an increase of 1,7 percent compared to the previous year.

Financial and insurance activities

First on the list is the financial and insurance sector, which includes banks and insurance companies. The average annual salary is €56.429, distributed among more than 480 workers in the country.
