In Italy, Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, became active in Sicily amid tremors.
The volcano Etna erupted this Sunday morning, releasing a column of ash and generating increased tremors in the surrounding area, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology-Etna Observatory (Imgv-Oe), from Catania, and which monitors the phenomenon.
The activity, which began around 7:50 am local time, is confined to the summit area and the volcano's desert, and does not pose any danger to people, according to the institute.
Catania international airport, Fontanarossa, remains operating, although with limitations due to the Coronavirus health emergency.
