A Tramontina is one of the most traditional Brazilian companies, with 110 years Of history. This is the result of the effort of the Italian's family EnricoTramontina.
It all started when the couple Enrico and Domenica Tramontina decided to leave Italy to look for work in Brazil, at the end of the 19th century, like so many others Italian immigrants At that time.
They lived in northeastern Italy, in the village of Poffabro, town of Friston, region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the province of Pordenone.
Arriving in Brazil, the couple Henrique and Domingas (names already Brazilianized) went to Rio Grande do Sul and had four children, including Valentin Tramontina, who was born on July 17, 1893, in the city of Santa Bárbara.
Tramontina begins activities with pocket knives
In 1911, at the age of 18, Valentin decided to move to the municipality of Carlos barbosa, where the railway had arrived and with it the hope of business expansion. It was there that he set up a small blacksmithing, which carried out repairs for industries in the region, in addition to shoeing horses.

In 1919, Valentin acquired a 300 square meter plot of land on Rua Amapá, where he built a wooden building to house his blacksmithing. The following year, the young man married Elisa De Cecco, which would be fundamental to the company’s prosperity. The couple had children Ivo, Henrique and Nilo.
In 1925, Tramontina began producing pocket knives with bone handle. It was the starting point for Tramontina's cutlery activities.
In 1932, the company added its first employees, residents of the village, who worked in the farming part-time and made knives and pocket knives in the basements of their homes.

Death, work and growth
Valentin Tramontina died at just 46 years old, in 1939. It was there that his widow Elisa emerged as entrepreneur cream and bold. She boarded the train at Carlos Barbosa station and left to sell her products in markets in neighboring cities and in the capital.
During Second World War, between 1939 and 1945, Elisa's determination not to let the company succumb was fundamental.

In 1949, the son Ivo Tramontina started managing the business, alongside a friend, Ruy Scomazzon, who became part of society.
The company began to invest in new technologies, like modern machinery and then, with the steel rolling, great possibilities opened up. In the 50s, Tramontina had 30 employees and pocket knives represented 90% of revenue.
The year 1961 marked the death of Elisa Tramontina, but his legacy of determination and day continued to bear fruit in the following decades.

The size of a dream
In the 60s and 70s, the company took a giant leap forward, opening facilities in Garibaldi, Farroupilha and Bahia. New products began to be manufactured, in addition to pocket knives, such as knives, cutlery, skewers, scissors and various types of tools. The complete portfolio exceeds the 18 pieces.
The current chairman of the company's Board of Directors is Clovis Tramontina, son of Ivo Tramontina, who died on December 23, 2017, aged 92, in Carlos Barbosa, Serra do Rio Grande do Sul.

Tramontina today has 10 factories in Brazil, eight in Rio Grande do Sul, one in Belém-PA and another in Recife-PE. The group employs more than 9 thousand employees and is present in more than 120 countries.
These are numbers that represent the result of the dream of that humble immigrant who came to an unknown land with the aim of forming a family and seek new opportunities for day.
