Three earthquakes struck the city of Reggio Emilia in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy on Wednesday (9) and frightened local residents. There is no information about damage or casualties.
The first tremor occurred between Modena e Reggio Emilia at around 19:55 pm (local time) and was 4 degrees on the Richter scale, with the epicenter in the municipality of Bagnolo in Piano, at a depth of 7,3 kilometers. THE earthquake it was felt in both capitals and in many neighboring areas, even in the border regions of Lombardy and Veneto.
The second occurred at 21 pm and had a magnitude of 4,3, with its epicenter in the Reggio Emilia region, three kilometers from Correggio, as reported by the National Institute of Geology and Volcanology (INGV).
This tremor was felt mainly in Modena e Bologna, where several people ran out of the Municipal theater, before the start of a concert.
A third earthquake was milder than the first two, with a magnitude of 2,7, with an epicenter in Novellara, in the province of Régio da Emília, at 21:37 pm (local time).
“Strength and courage, our legs shake a little, also because our brain remembers previous earthquakes in 2012, 1996, etc.”, said the mayor of the municipality of Campogalliano (Modena), on Facebook.
According to Civil Defense, local authorities are carrying out inspections and monitoring the situation. Although there appears to be no damage or casualties, the tremors have raised fear and alert in an area that almost 10 years ago it was severely hit by an earthquake that left deaths and destruction.
