Sofia and Leonardo lead the ranking of baby names in Italy

Leonardo and Sofia were the most popular Italian names for babies born in 2020, according to a report released this week by the National Statistics Institute (Istat).

According to the survey, Sofia remained at the top of the ranking among girls, while Giulia stole second place on the podium from Aurora, who fell to third place.

Among the boys, Leonardo and Francesco maintained the first two places, while Alessandro took Lorenzo from third place.

Despite the diversity found by Istat, the 30 most popular include 44% of all male babies and 38% female babies.

Considering only children of foreigners, Adam leads the ranking among boys, followed by Rayan and Amir, and Sofia is once again the preferred name for girls, just ahead of Sara and Amira, according to Ansa.
