Away from the World Cup for the second time in a row, the Italian national team needs to look for reinforcements in Brazil to remain among the elite of world football.
After the center forward João Pedro, the steering wheel Jorginho, left-back Emerson Palmieri and the defenders Rafael Toloi and Luiz Felipe, coach Roberto Mancini could call another “Brazilian” for the Azzurri.
According to news coming from Turin, the Italian team would be thinking about calling Gleison Bremer in defense. With him the group of Italian-Brazilians would rise to 6.
If everyone played together, half of the team would be made up of Italian-Brazilians.
Bremer, former Atlético Mineiro and current central defender Turin, has just been voted the best defensive player in the last Serie A.
His wife Deborah Claudino, in fact, is Brazilian like him (the two have known each other since they were children), but she has Italian origins. Her ancestors are from Veneto.
It will then be up to the defender to decide whether to accept the (probable) call-up from Italy, or wait for the call-up from Brazil.
The defender of Turin – four seasons ago – he could use his wife's Italian citizenship to apply for naturalization through marriage, as guaranteed by law. Bremer would be willing to take this step, according to local newspapers.
