Santa Catarina is about to realize a long-held dream of its immense Italian community. Within three months, Florianópolis will become the headquarters of an official representation of the Italian consulate, a significant achievement for the state that is home to the second largest contingent of descendants of Italians in Brazil, representing almost 70% of its population.
The news was confirmed by the Italian Consul General for the States of Paraná and Santa Catarina, Eugenia Berti, during an event in Brusque.
The creation of this “Sportello Consular” This will meet the growing demand for services such as passport issuance and recognition of Italian citizenship, processes that, until now, required travel to Curitiba or faced lengthy bureaucratic procedures.
With the new representation, it is expected that these services will become more accessible, agile and efficient, directly benefiting more than 100 thousand people from Santa Catarina who already have Italian citizenship.
Authorization to open the consulate was granted by both the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and by the Italian government, highlighting the commitment of both countries to strengthening ties with the Italian-Brazilian community.
The news was received with enthusiasm by local leaders and the population, who had been demanding closer consular representation for years.
