There is no budget for an Italian consulate in SC, says embassy

The dream of having an Italian consulate in Santa Catarina depends on money. This is not a political dispute. 

And according to the Italian Embassy in Brasília there is no budget for a new structure. The information was passed on to Santa Catarina governor Carlos Moisés, who backed down on the matter.

Furthermore, Italian representations in the State carry out preliminary services for issuing documents in some municipalities in Santa Catarina. 

The state has the largest number of Italian descendants in Brazil. 

Consular agency in Vitória

Last week, an Italian consulate agency was announced for Espírito Santo, and it is expected to begin operating in one to two years.

“The consular agency is a representation of the Italian government. It is an independent unit, like a consulate. It is not called a consulate because we do not have a consul here, but we will have a representative from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs here, in addition to other civil servants who will be working,” explains Cilmar Franceschetto, president of Casa d'Italia.
