There are reports of people trying for months to receive care, without success.
According to the Embassy, each consular unit is responsible for its own processes.
The consulate in São Paulo defends itself by saying that the new system prevents the sale of places, carried out by appointment and service dispatchers.
“The previous system was unacceptable. How can I maintain a system that becomes a mafia, where appointments are sold? A passport is a very serious matter,” said Consul Filippo La Rosa.
In addition to serving the state with the highest concentration of Italians, the consulate in São Paulo is responsible for the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia and Acre.
With 250 registered Italian citizens and around 200 citizenship applications in process, it is the consulate with the highest demand in Brazil.
