A Italian Embassy in Brasilia received the “Zero Waste” certification, given by the Instituto Lixo Zero Brasil, this Monday (12).
The Italian ambassador, Francis Azzarello, said he was particularly “honored by the recognition and very proud that Italy can once again be a reference point in the environmental sustainability sector, also pursuing social objectives, together with Brazil”.
The project was implemented in 2018 and is monitored by environmental engineer Luciana Souza and lawyer Pedro Moura.
“Today, less than 2 kilos of waste per day are sent to landfill compared to the 125 kilos that were sent before the project was carried out”, highlights Moura in a note.
As explained by Embaixada, “a set of measures ensures that 100% of organic waste is sent to the complex’s compost bin, which was also inaugurated during the certification ceremony” and the final product is used as fertilizer within the structure itself. Furthermore, recyclable and electronic waste is donated to partner cooperatives and the use of plastic cups has been abolished.
This Monday, due to the delivery of the certificate, the Embaixada promoted a free virtual screening of the Italian animated film “Trash”, inspired by the themes of ecology and sustainability. (ANSA).
