After Lionel Messi, another big name from Argentina also has its roots in the small Italian town of San Severino Marche, in the Marche region.

Its about Javier Milei, the current Argentine president. The discovery was confirmed after research conducted by sociologist and journalist Fiorenzo Santini.

Investigations revealed that Rufino Bracaglioli, Milei's great-grandfather, was born in San Severino Marche on the day September 28th, 1899. Son of Francesco Bracaglioli and Caterina Capodimonte, Rufino left Italy in December 6, 1914, boarding the ship at the port of Genoa bound for Argentina Regina Elena. His journey was not solitary, as in Argentina he married Nazzarena Antonini, also a descendant of Italians from the same region.

The family history continues with the couple's daughter, Elia Matilde Bracaglioli, who married Nicolas Mariano Lucich Bosikovic. From the union was born Alicia Lujian Lucich, mother of Javier Milei, adding Yugoslav roots to the president's genealogy. On her father's side, Milei also carries Italian ancestry from the Calabria.

Italian citizenship and its link to history

Rufino Bracaglioli lived the rest of his days in Argentina, passing away in Villa Nugueta on March 26, 1983. Despite being distant, his Italian origins recently gained prominence again, when Javier Milei officially received the Italian citizenship from the hands of the prime minister Giorgia Meloni, reinforcing his bond with Italy. During a visit to the country, Milei even said that he felt “Italian in 75%” due to the stories of their grandparents.
