Italy's new prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, led this Sunday (23) his first Council of Ministers and emphasized the need for a united government to combat the emergencies the country is facing.
“We must be united, there are emergencies for the country to face. We must work together,” said the leader of the Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, according to parliamentary sources.
Meloni also said that “it is an honor to represent all Italians” and highlighted “the need to always act with a team spirit”, with a sense of responsibility and loyalty.
“We started. With a lot of emotion, but also with the awareness of the difficult challenges that await us. Now it’s up to us: we’re ready,” Meloni wrote on Twitter.
At the meeting, at Palazzo Chigi, she also made a sincere thank you to President Sergio Mattarella and formalized the Ministers of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, of the League, and of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, for the shared position of Vice Prime Minister, in addition to appointing Alfredo Mantovano as undersecretary of the Presidency of the Council.
Salvini and Tajani reportedly thanked Meloni and reiterated their desire to keep the coalition together, according to government sources.
“Everything went well”, declared the new Minister of Infrastructure upon leaving the government headquarters.

“Giorgia said that we are committed to showing that this government will be a good surprise for everyone, for Italy,” said Ciriani.
Zangrillo highlighted that the Prime Minister asked us not to forget “that, in addition to being an honor, it is a great responsibility”. She also made an “appeal to loyalty, team spirit, work with a sense of responsibility”.
