Italian police arrested a 41-year-old Italian-Brazilian man convicted of sexually abusing children in Brazil. The man, whose identity was not revealed, was the subject of an international arrest warrant and was detained on December 30th in Cuorgnè, Italy. province of Turin.
The capture took place in a supermarket parking lot, but details were only released by authorities this Monday (5), according to the Ansa agency.
The individual holds Italian citizenship and was taken to the Ivrea penitentiary. He will remain in pre-trial detention while awaiting extradition proceedings to Brazil, following confirmation of his detention at a custody hearing.
The conviction was handed down by the Court of Justice of São Paulo, which imposed a sentence of 20 years imprisonment for the rape of a vulnerable person.
The crimes were committed between 2012 and 2018 in family settings. According to Brazilian investigations, the man took advantage of the trust of the victims' parents, who left their children in his care due to their family ties.
