Italian student Elsa Rubino, 15, showed signs of improvement on Thursday (22). Hospitalized in Zurich, Switzerland, the young woman woke up from her coma and recognized her parents.
She was one of the victims of Fire at Le Constellation bar.The incident occurred at the Crans-Montana resort on New Year's Eve. The teenager's father, Lorenzo Rubino, confirmed the improvement in her clinical condition.
“The situation is still delicate, but today there was a first sign, she recognized us,” Lorenzo said in an interview with the Adnkronos agency. The young woman is from Biella, in the Piedmont region.
Despite the progress, Elsa Rubino's prognosis remains uncertain. According to the ANSA news agency, the student is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has already undergone two intestinal surgeries. A third medical intervention is planned due to the fragility of her health condition.
The fire at the Le Constellation bar left 40 dead and nearly 100 injured. Among the fatalities were Milanese students Chiara Costanzo and Achille Barosi, as well as golfer Emanuele Galeppini. Autopsies indicated that the deaths were caused by asphyxiation.
In Milan, the Lombardy Welfare Secretary, Guido Bertolaso, commented on the injured who were transferred to Italy. He reported that some patients hospitalized at Niguarda Hospital may be discharged in the coming days.
Bertolaso emphasized that treatment protocols are complex and long-term. The secretary stated that medical follow-up includes rigorous monitoring and prevention phases to ensure the full recovery of survivors.
