To assist in this quarantine, the Ministry of Cultural Assets provides a video – virtual tour – of the excavations of the Pompeii Archaeological Park.
In times of global quarantine due to the new coronavirus pandemic, Italy has made a gem available: a virtual tour of the excavations at the Pompeii Archaeological Park, in the south of the country.
The video shows different parts of the historic Roman city, such as the garden house with the triclinium frescoes and the painted portico, for example, and was narrated by the director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Massimo Osanna.
In 2019, Pompeii received 3,9 million tourists, making it the third most visited museum in Italy, behind only the Colosseum in Rome and the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.
A prosperous and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice following the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
