Born during the Spanish fever of 1919, Italian beats coronavirus at age 101
In yet another moving story, a 101-year-old man was cured of the new coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) and returned home to Rimini, Italy, on Wednesday night (25). The news was released by the city's deputy mayor, Gloria Lisi.
“This morning, I was given this good news: a man, from Rimini, positive for Covid-19, was discharged from the 'Infermi' hospital in Rimini and returned to his family home,” said the representative. According to information provided by Lisi, “Mr. P.” was born in 1919 in the midst of another “tragic global pandemic”, the Black Death.
“101 years, the century was almost lived entirely by him. He saw it all, Mr. P.. Wars, hunger, pain, progress, crises and resurrections. Overcoming the century-old barrier, destiny presented him with this new challenge, invisible and terrible at the same time”, he further stated.
The elderly man was hospitalized for the last few weeks, testing positive for Covid-19 and “in a few days, he also became 'the story' for doctors, nurses and the entire healthcare team” at the hospital.
“A hope for the future of all of us in the body of a person over 100 years old, when the sad stories of these weeks mechanically tell, every day, that the virus attacks mainly the elderly. But, he did it. Mr. P. did it. The family took him home last night and this teaches us that, even at 101 years old, someone already has their future written”, concluded the vice-mayor.
Cases like the elderly man from Rimini began to appear in the Italian media. Although few still face the tragedy, they end up encouraging doctors, nurses and teams working to combat the disease across the country.
