Giro D'Itália, traditional world cycling event, will debut in Brazil

Road cycling in Brazil continues to grow, as evidenced by the fact that in 2022 one of the most traditional events in the world will debut here, the Giro D'Italia. With two route options, 110 and 63 kilometers through Serra da Mantiqueira, the event takes place in Campos de Jordão Mountains on April 3th.

“The Giro d'Italia Ride Like a Pro has in its DNA the maximum experience for the amateur cyclist compared to the professional who competes in the Giro d'Italia. We choose the Serra da Mantiqueira precisely because it favors the construction of this sporting experience”, explains Fábio Oliveira, managing partner of the project in Brazil.

Now, in 2022, Brazil will become the protagonist of this plan to leverage the global expansion of the brand's physical presence. The country was chosen because it is a destination with a strong and established market for road cyclists, as well as the scenic beauty and broad capacity of the companies located here for product development.

To expand this experience, the route will pass through paved roads and highways, which will be closed and blocked for the athlete's safety; passage through sections of gravel (dirt floor) was included, one of the most emblematic experiences of the Giro D'Italia and unprecedented in Brazil; and the athletes will also face the challenges of the 7-kilometer stretch in Serra do Paiol with slopes of 13% to 24%, and exotic landscapes that will require technique, overcoming and a lot of focus from the participants.

The 110-kilometer route has 2650 meters of elevation gain, while the 63-kilometer route has 1350 meters of elevation gain.

“These will be routes in a region rich in challenging mountains, paradisiacal view and, above all, passes with slopes with characteristics similar to Italian mountains, such as Serra do Paiol”, adds Fábio Oliveira. The routes will also pass through sections in the beautiful cities of Santo Antônio do Pinhal, Sapucaí Mirim and São Bento do Sapucaí.

For security and logistical reasons, the event will be limited to 2500 amateur athletes, over 18 years old. Registration is open and can be done through official event website. C6 Bank customers | Mastercard offers a 10% discount on the registration fee and payment in up to 10 installments.
