The field “father’s name” was reinserted into the Negative Naturalization Certificate (CNN), following a request from the Italian-Brazilian community. The change, this Monday (20), met part of the request articulated by Luis Roberto Lorenzato, former Italian deputy and Lega representative in Brazil.
The formal request was sent to the Ministry of Justice on October 14, 2025, through an official letter signed by federal deputy Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP), at the request of his friend Lorenzato.
The CNN (Certificate of Naturalization) is a mandatory document in Italian citizenship recognition processes by descent. The new version, issued by the DATANATURALIZAÇÃO platform, had excluded the field for the father's name — which generated criticism from jurists and the Italian-Brazilian community, concerned about the risks of homonyms and legal challenges.
With the change already implemented, the certificate once again contains the name of the applicant's father, which reinforces the document's individualization. Still, other points remain pending.

In the office, Rossi also requests the possibility of including name variations in the same document, in addition to the temporary reactivation of the old platform, which allowed the validation of previously issued certificates..
"The previous format was more comprehensive, secure, and less bureaucratic, and it didn't represent an additional cost for citizens. We hope the Ministry reverses its remaining decisions," Lorenzato told Italianismo.
Lorenzato advocates opening a channel of dialogue with entities representing the Italian-Brazilian community to ensure that technological modernizations do not create barriers to the exercise of a legitimate right, recognized by Italian law.
