Deputy Angelo Bonelli, from the party Green and Left Alliance, declared this Tuesday (20), during a session in the Italian Chamber of Deputies, that Carlos and Eduardo, the sons of former president Jair Bolsonaro, already have Italian passports.
The speech took place during the debate of a proposed law that aims to restrict the recognition of Italian citizenship, changing central points of current legislation.
"The children of Jair Bolsonaro, former president of the Federative Republic of Brazil, already have Italian passports," Bonelli said during his speech.
The parliamentarian also directly cited the case of Bolsonaro's children, highlighting that the former president is being investigated in Brazil for alleged participation in actions to subvert democracy after the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2022.

According to reports published in the Brazilian press, Carlos Bolsonaro and Eduardo Bolsonaro began the process of obtaining Italian citizenship in 2022 through the Italian Embassy in Brasília.
In 2023, Italy's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Antonio Tajani, stated that Jair Bolsonaro had no ongoing trial in the country.
"Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro never applied for Italian citizenship, and there are laws in place. There are people who have the right to apply for it, but he did not," Tajani said at the time.
