John Ferrero is no longer the richest man in Italy. According to the ranking of Forbes Real Time BillionairesLeonardo DelVecchio has already overcome it. He boasts a wealth of 35 billion dollars, 1,6 billion more than that of Giovanni Ferrero, who stopped at “just” 33,4 billion dollars – around R$187 billion.

In April 2021, when Forbes published the ranking of the world's richest, Ferrero boasted $35,1 billion, while Del Vecchio was worth $25,8 billion. This means the latter made almost 10 billion in just over 7 months.

Currently, Leonardo DelVecchio is the 36th richest person in the world and the seventh richest in Europe (Giovanni Ferrero is eighth). 

Giovanni Ferrero was no longer considered “the richest man in Italy” due to the fact that he had changed his residence to Belgium. Now, however, Leonardo Del Vecchio, who was already leading the latest ranking of the 46 richest billionaires in Italy, has completed overtaking Ferrero also in terms of personal wealth.

Leonardo Del Vecchio, 86, from Milan, is the founder and president of Luxottica and the executive president of Essilor Luxottica

Through its Luxembourg holding company Dolphin, also holds 18,9% of Mediobanca, of which he is the main shareholder. Married 3 times, he has 6 children.

Recently, your Essilor Luxottica was involved in the metaverse of Facebook (a few weeks ago he became Meta). In September, the birth of Ray Ban Stories, smart glasses from the North American company acquired by Luxottica in 1999.
