These measures have a direct impact on thousands of families in Brazil and other South American countries, where one of the largest communities of Italian descendants in the world lives.
Main changes proposed in the amendment
- Fee of up to 600 euros for administrative procedures (in the commune):
Italian municipalities will be able to charge an administrative fee of up to 600 Euros for each applicant of legal age who requests recognition of citizenship directly from city halls. - Increase in consular fees:

- Municipalities may subject applications for recognition of Italian citizenship to payment of an administrative fee in the amount of 600 Euros for each applicant of legal age. Criticisms and concerns
Experts point out that the new fees represent a significant obstacle to accessing Italian citizenship, especially for descendants of Italians in economically disadvantaged countries.
