The CEO of Inter Milan, Giuseppe Marotta, left this Wednesday (26) a warning for Italian state entities, warning of the imminent bankruptcy of Serie A and professional football structures.
Marotta declared, in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore , what "all of Italian football is at risk of insolvency”. “The Government and political institutions cannot ignore reality. The entire system is on the brink of the abyss, a reality that already existed before Covid and that has not received due attention and support over the last two years”, denounced the leader “Inter".
At the beginning of January, the Italian League clubs unanimously agreed to reduce stadium capacity to five thousand spectators for two matchdays, as a way of helping to lower the curve of Covid-19 cases, a situation that Marotta wants to reverse, hoping that clubs can increase revenue.
Remember that Italy was, at the beginning of the pandemic, the most affected European country, having closed the stadiums at the beginning of 2020, subsequently maintaining up to 50% of the arenas' capacity, restrictions eased according to the evolution of the situation in the country and in Europe.
“The presence of the public with FFP2 masks, certificates and reduced capacity of up to 50% in outdoor equipment is safe. THE reduction to five thousand spectators, with great sacrifice from the clubs, is proof that the situation is faced with maximum responsibility”, he highlighted, drawing a parallel with other leagues.
If France is on the verge of opening the doors of stadiums without restrictions, like what is already happening in England, will it make any sense for Italy to continue such a restrictive policy?”, he asked.
Regarding excessive populism in relation to the world of football, Marotta explained: “Football continues to be seen as a world of rich and stupid managers who waste money for mere pleasure”. “We fight to deserve recognition for what we really represent and we do not accept that professional football is not seen as any other industry,” he said.
