Several footballs from different eras were found on the roof of a church in the city of Ascoli Piceno, in central Italy.
The balls were found during preparatory work for the restoration of the structures of the San Tommaso church, which were damaged by the 2016 earthquake.
Among the balls found lost at the site are some models used in 1978 World Cup, in Argentina. Second Nico Stallone, former player and city Sports Secretary, the church square was a place where many children played football.

“These balls are testimony to a football that was played in Italian squares, where young people gathered to play and dreamed of becoming champions, and many actually managed to fulfill that desire,” declared Stallone.
The town of Ascoli Piceno is known for having the Ascoli Calcium as its main representative in football. The club competes in Series B of the Italian Championship and was the home of former Brazilian player Walter Casagrande. (Loop)
