On Saturday, August 2, the Italian municipality of Carmignano di Brenta, in the province of Padua, signed a friendship pact with the Santa Catarina city of Morro Grande. The initiative is part of the celebrations of 150 years of Italian emigration for the state of Santa Catarina.
The project is the result of a partnership between the local government and the Centro Studi Grandi Migrazioni APS. The goal is to reclaim the memory of the great migrations and promote the cultural heritage, identity, and traditions of communities of Venetian origin scattered around the world.
Brazilian presence and historical ties
The ceremony was attended by an official delegation from Big Hill, comprised of 13 people and led by Mayor Clelio Daniel Olivo. During the visit, the group participated in various cultural activities and meetings with the local community.
The itinerary included visits to the Cartiera di Carmignano, the church of Sant'Anna Spessa, and Villa Spessa. The day concluded with a traditional dinner featuring local dishes.
On Monday, August 4, the delegation concluded their stay with a visit to the Lattesbuche agricultural company.
According to Italian prefecture, “the signing of this pact represents much more than a symbolic gesture: it is a bridge between two communities that, even though geographically distant, share roots, values and deep feelings”.
