Have you ever dreamed of sleeping in a fairytale castle? For around 100 euros it is possible
The medieval village of Roccascalegna, located in the wild Abruzzo region, is renting out its recently rehabilitated castle for special events – such as weddings or birthdays – for a promotional price. The goal? Encourage tourism in a sparsely populated location, according to CNN Travel.
“Our purpose is not to make money, but rather to use this unique setting to stimulate the local economy, attracting special customers who appreciate small and unusual places”, says the mayor of Roccascalegna, Domenico Giangiordano.
Also known as the “Castle of Heaven”, the 700 square meter monument has a wedding chapel, dungeons (type of prison) and former torture rooms, which were prepared for brunch and dinners, as well as a tower to host parties and cocktails at night.
Situated on a cliff in Roccascalegna – known in the past as the “Valley of Death” – the castle has stunning views and can only be reached on foot, making the location even more exclusive. “The castle, abandoned for centuries, was a ruin where sheep and dogs slept,” explains Giangiordano. “Now it’s a gem,” he adds.

The Medieval Castle of Roccascalegna has a rating of 4,5 in the TripAdvisor, with more than 300 reviews made by travelers who have been there.
