Starting this Tuesday, June 10, Italy is facing the first heat wave of the summer of 2025. According to meteorologists, the phenomenon is caused by an African anticyclone that brings hot winds from the Sahara.
The Ministry of Health issued an amber alert, indicating a moderate health risk, for cities such as Bolzano, Campobasso and Perugia this Wednesday, 11th. Nine other capitals, including Roma, Milan, Florence, Turin and Verona, are under yellow alert.
According to meteorologist Mattia Gussoni, from this Tuesday, Italy will find itself in a “high pressure bubble”, with high temperatures and a feeling of suffocation.
The forecast indicates that temperatures are expected to rise even further from Wednesday onwards. Maximum temperatures could reach 38°C in Florence and Foggia, 36°C in Roma and between 34°C and 35°C in cities such as Milan, Bologna and Padua.
According to Stefano Rossi, from the website ilmeteo.it, the heat will be more intense in urban areas, with peaks expected between Friday, June 13, and Sunday, June 15. Temperatures are typical of July and August, which worries health authorities.
On Thursday 12th, the amber level alert will be extended to Roma, Rieti and Frosinone. Children, the elderly and people with health problems should avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day.
The government recommends that people avoid direct exposure to the sun, drink plenty of water and keep environments ventilated.
