The three-day program includes music, cinema and lectures
The event “Italy in Southern Minas” begins this Thursday (25) and runs until Saturday (27) in Poços de Caldas. The program celebrates Italian culture with music, cinema and lectures. The event is organized by the Italian-Brazilian Circle of Southern Minas, with support from the Consulate of Italy in Belo Horizonte.
At the opening of the event, which takes place on Thursday (25), at 19:30 pm, at Teatro Benigno Gaiga (Urca), there will be a performance by the String Orchestra of the Musical Conservatory, with the presence of maestro Rafael Sisti and Italian singer Charlote Mello , who will perform Italian songs. Tickets cost R$20 and can be purchased at the time of the event (subject to capacity).
On Friday (26), with free entry, the Italian cinema session will take place in the Fepasa courtyard (Praça Paul Harris S/N), at 19:30 pm, with the film Startup. Closing the program, on Saturday (27), also with free entry, there will be a round of lectures at the City Hall. At 15pm, the lecture “Italian Immigration” will take place, with historian Virgínio Mantesso Neto.
The president of the Italian-Brazilian Circle, Elaine Piva, explains that the idea behind the event was to do something that wasn't just about Italian gastronomy, but also to showcase a bit of the culture and roots of that people. “The initial intention was to decouple Italy from just food, from just gastronomy, which is also important, but in our case here, the descendants need to learn a little about how immigration happened in the region, especially in our city, and how Italian immigration in general happened in Brazil, the origin of surnames, and how they are regional. So, it was a way to allow people to learn a little about their own history,” explains Elaine.
