Embassy in Brazil offers scholarships to learn Italian

The Italian Embassy in Brazil launched a scholarship program for those who want to learn the Italian language.

“In view of the difficult socioeconomic situation generated by the pandemic, and with the aim of strengthening the commitment to the dissemination of the Italian language and culture, the Italian Institute of Culture of Rio de Janeiro proposes this study program”, says the official note released by diplomatic representation.   

In total, there are 16 full scholarships, lasting two semesters, for study at intermediate levels, starting on January 12th.   

According to the statement, it was established that the scholarships will be distributed to students from four states: Minas Gerais, Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.   

The initiative is a partnership between the Embassy of Italy in Brazil and the Italian Institute of Culture in Rio.   

Students interested in learn Italian They will have to follow the rules and prerequisites regarding the selection process, which will consist of three stages. They are: assessment of candidates’ socioeconomic requirements; assessment of people's merit requirements; and attitudinal assessment.   

To apply for a scholarship you must send an email to [email protected], with specific scanned documents and some personal data.

Socioeconomic Requirements: Have a maximum per capita family income of 3 minimum wages; Be between 16 and 32 years old; Be enrolled in a public education institute: college, university or other public educational institution.   

2. Merit Requirements: Have a good academic record; Have the minimum level of language proficiency A2, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(the level of proficiency will be verified through a written and oral placement test).   

3. Attitudinal Requirements: Demonstrate basic knowledge of the geography, history and current socio-cultural reality of Italy; Demonstrate a high level of commitment to deepening your knowledge of the Italian language and culture based on specific objectives, which will be verified through a motivational interview (carried out online through the platform Zoom).
