The fee of employment broke a record in Italy in April 2024, reaching 62,3%.
84 thousand new jobs were created day in relation to March, an increase of 0,4%.
The unemployment rate in the same month fell to 6,9%, the lowest rate since December 2008, when it was at the same level. The inactivity rate remained stable at 33%.
The data was released this Thursday (30) by the Italian National Statistics Institute (Istat).
The level of unemployment among young people aged 15 to 24 also remained stable at 20,2%, the lowest level since February 2008.
“It’s great news for Italians. But there are even more encouraging elements in the latest Istat surveys: for the first time in more than 15 years, unemployment in Italy falls below 7%. In general, it is the entire job market that is moving”, said the Minister of Labor, Marina Calderone.
“The data on young people under 25 and women is encouraging, as they are the main targets of our active policies. There is confidence from companies and workers.
We will continue to invest in stable, growing contracts and in the acquisition of skills by workers to reduce the gap between labor supply and demand”, he concluded.
Eurostat, a European research institute, also released the unemployment rate in the euro zone. In April, the rate fell to 6,4%, compared to 6,5% in March. In the European Union, it remained stable at 6%. (HANDLE)
