Dual citizenship is the shortest way to escape Brazil's constant crises
The opening of new doors to the world has led many people to seek recognition of dual citizenship.
More than just acquiring a new passport, the process can broaden job market opportunities, improve academic qualifications, and even foster closer family ties.
According to experts, this is another way to escape the current Brazilian crisis. The consulates of Italy and Portugal are among those receiving the highest demand for dual citizenship.
The Supreme Court reaffirmed: citizenship is born with the person.
- New legal front opened
- Processes can still be filed.
- Individual assessment before any decision.
The situation is also reflected in the Northeast, where around 600 applications are registered per year. To obtain the title, it is necessary to have ties with foreigners.
Despite the long work involved in gathering documents, which is costly, the practice has shown promise.
Through conventional mechanisms, interested parties contact the nearest embassies and may face queues of up to ten years.
Italy and Portugal
Those in a hurry can apply directly to the countries of interest, reducing this interval to an average of six months in Portugal and up to three months in Italy.
According to international organizations, around 200 thousand Brazilians have already achieved Italian citizenship.
And more than 500 are still waiting for the green light from that country. The average flow is up to 50 requests per month.
Overall, the most sought-after is still the North American one, reaching the mark of 10 million people in the last ten years. For those who are not blood ties, marriage is the way to shorten the path.
Those who obtain the document can establish residence or carry out paid work in the 27 countries of the European Community. Coverage in a medical network and social security top the list.
Dual citizenship
Social worker Tereza Santoianni, 57, for example, felt the benefits. “My brothers traveled to work and ended up staying. My children took important courses that they wouldn’t find here. They impose many obstacles, but you have to be persistent. The advantages are countless,” she said.
Professor of International Relations at Faculdade Damas, Maurício Wanderley, explained that it is necessary to remain alert.
“There are still few companies focused on this area, requiring caution to avoid falling victim to scams by middlemen. A thorough analysis is essential. Each country has different rules for approval,” he advised.
According to the consultant, after being certified as a citizen, men and women enjoy the same rights and obligations as natural citizens, including retirement, meeting the legal requirements.
