The city of Treviso, in the Veneto region, in northern Italy, announced on Monday (29) a ban on the use of fireworks, rockets and firecrackers during New Year's celebrations.
The measure, determined by Mayor Mario Conte, is valid from December 30th to January 7th. The objective is to reduce risks to the population and avoid disruptions caused by the use of explosive devices in urban areas.
“We want to ensure peaceful holidays for all citizens, especially the most vulnerable. The noise from fireworks poses a danger to public health and causes significant stress, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with more delicate health conditions,” the mayor stated in an official note.
Conte also mentioned the negative impacts on domestic and wild animals, who often become frightened, run away, or get lost.
