Sambuca di Sicilia is an Italian commune in region of Sicily, province of Agrigento, with just over six thousand inhabitants and which is struggling against the exodus of former residents, who have moved to large centers.
Now, the mayor's objective is to give a new life to the municipality. And anyone interested can buy a house right now.

“Unlike other cities that did this just for propaganda, this city hall has all the houses for sale for one euro,” he told the network CNN, Giuseppe Cacioppo, vice-mayor and tourism advisor of Sambuca. “We are not intermediaries who establish the connection between old and new owners. If you want that house, you’ll go in.”
But there is an obligation: the new owners must commit to renovating the houses within three years, with a value starting from 15 thousand euros – around R$ 67 thousand –, in addition to depositing a deposit of five thousand euros – around R$22 – an amount that will be returned as soon as the renovation is completed.

However, buyers will not be disappointed, assures Cacioppo. “Sambuca is known as the 'city of splendor,'” he added. “This fertile piece of land is nicknamed 'earthly paradise'. We are located within a natural reserve, full of history. We have beautiful beaches, forests and mountains. It is silent and peaceful, a bucolic place, ideal for relaxing.”
With the population reduced, Cacioppo said the city needs foreigners to avoid depopulation. “We cannot lose our lovely Arab heritage. Fortunately, foreigners will help us with our rescue mission,” he concluded.
The two-story houses are built of reddish-pink stone and have backyards, gardens with palm trees and entrance portals. It is also possible to see the Etna volcano in Sicily on days when the sky is clear enough.
