In Milan, where the demand for domestic workers is high, the nanny position has become a coveted opportunity.
But in some cases, speaking fluent English, playing sports, and even wearing a uniform are requirements, especially for the wealthy families of Italy's economic capital.
With salaries that can reach €5 per month (approximately R$31), the so-called nanny of the super-rich face a rigorous selection process, with demands that go beyond childcare.
Families require, for example, fluency in languages like English—and, in some cases, a third language. Sports skills like swimming and skiing are also highly valued, as nannies often accompany families on trips.

Strict selection and confidentiality agreement
The routine of those who care for the children of the Milanese elite involves a variety of tasks, from preparing healthy meals to controlling screen time. Some families even request that caregivers avoid perfumes or visible brands on their clothing.
In certain cases, it's necessary to sign confidentiality agreements, even during the probationary period. Trust is a decisive factor in being hired.
Specialized agencies operate in this high-end market. Nanny & Butler, for example, is headquartered in Milan and other cities such as London and Dubai. According to consultant Giulia Garroni Parisi, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, “families pay for quality” and see the service as an essential part of their children’s education.
