Mapping of minors at the São Paulo Consulate may influence the deadline for Italian citizenship

The Italian Consulate General in São Paulo has begun mapping children under the age of 18 born to Italian citizens who are eligible for citizenship by birth. benefit of Law No. 74/2025. The procedure must be done exclusively through the Prenot@Mi portal.

As São Paulo is home to one of the largest Italian consulates in the world in terms of volume of services, it is speculated that the Italian government is using local data as indicator of the need to extend the legal deadline.

The mapping can help the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assess whether it will be necessary to extend the period for recognition of citizenship by legal benefit, given the high demand.

Who should register on the portal

Registration on the form is intended exclusively for parents who do not yet have an appointment for delivery of documents.

How to fill it out correctly

In Prenot@Mi, the person responsible must access the “Registration” tab and:

• Confirm that the children are from the same parent;
• Inform whether everyone resides within the jurisdiction of the Consulate of São Paulo;
• Fill in the details of the oldest child who has not yet been registered;
• Do not include children already registered or with recognized citizenship.

Documents must be attached in PDF format.
