The soap opera explored the importance of Italian immigration in the formation of Brazilian society
20 years ago, “Terra Nostra” debuted, a great success on Globo’s prime band. How can we forget Giuliana's voice when pronouncing the name of her great love, Matteo? There were few who were not glued to the television, surrendered to the penetrating blue eyes of Ana Paula Arósio and the beauty of Thiago Lacerda.
Written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa, directed by Jayme Monjardim, “Terra Nostra” was one of the best-selling soap operas abroad, having been shown in more than 80 countries, such as Colombia, Portugal, Croatia, El Salvador, Spain, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Romania and Serbia, and was also a success in Italy.

“Terra Nostra” marked the debut of Maria Fernanda Cândido as an actress on TV Globo. In a survey carried out by Fantástico during the airing of the soap opera, she was elected by the Brazilian public as “the most beautiful woman of the century”.
Now, to satisfy the nostalgia and celebrate its 20th anniversary, the soap opera will be rerun on the Viva channel. According to Folha de S.Paulo, the international version of Terra Nostra will be shown, due to copyright. The original Terra Nostra had 221 chapters. The version that will be aired on Viva only has 150. The premiere is scheduled to take place on February 28th. The rerun will air at 14:30 pm – with a rerun at around 1 am.
My love
“Terra Nostra” offers us the nostalgic presence of Raul Cortez, who, contrary to what would happen to an Italian immigrant in real life, accentuated his accent as the soap opera progressed, an inevitable effect of improving the actor's practice. (and what an actor!).
There is also Maria Fernanda Cândido, in the role of the Italian who seduces Cortez, in memorable scenes of a beautiful woman, at the time compared to Sofia Loren, with a character of almost genuine seduction.
And there is Ana Paula Arósio, always and above all, who is always worth missing. It is also worth highlighting the pair formed by Lu Grimaldi and Antonio Calloni, with a unique commotion.
And we cannot ignore Débora Duarte's performance, which is incredibly sensitive.
The opening track is accompanied by the voice of Aguinaldo Rayol, “Tormento D'Amore”, and the entire soap opera follows at a pace that made Brazilians believe they could speak Italian, without major difficulties.
