Websites of Italian consulates and embassies around the world are offline this Sunday (29).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), responsible for hosting all consular organizations' websites, has not yet announced the reason.
This Saturday (28), the Italian government reported that the Italian embassy in Berlin, Germany, and the headquarters of the Italian Consulate General in Barcelona, Spain, were targets of attacks last night.
The first attack caused the car of the counselor at the Italian Embassy in Berlin, Luigi Estero, to catch fire.
The second targeted the building where the Consulate General of Italy is located in Barcelona, whose windows were broken and the wall at the building's entrance was spray-painted with graffiti. Nobody was injured.
At the moment, there are no details about the perpetrators of the attacks, but there is a suspicion that the episodes are linked to anarchist groups.
Last December, in fact, Greek anarchists claimed the attack on two cars belonging to the first counselor at the Italian embassy in Athens, Susanna Schlein.
Last week, several email servers were down in Italy. According to the Free e Virgilio, the technical failure affected around 9 million users.
