Onyx Lorenzoni went after his Italian roots and found in the region of Veneto an experience of a lifetime. Former Chief Minister of the Civil House and former Minister of Labor and Social Security, Lorenzoni tells Italianism a little about the trajectory of his family immigrants, which he approached in Italy.
Political, veterinarian and businessman from Rio Grande do Sul, Onyx is proud of both his political trajectory and the history of his Italian-Brazilian family.
“Travelling to Italy was a dream, as I had promised my father that I would take him. Unfortunately, we lost him before realizing this dream and I found myself obliged to return to Italy with him in my heart”, declares Lorenzoni.
In Veneto, he lived for a period in the city of castelcucco and made many friends, as well as getting to know the city of Villa Raspa, where his grandfather left, at the age of 16, to come to Brazil and start Lorenzoni family in the country.

Onyx Lorenzoni's great-grandfather
Onyx says that his great-grandfather, Giulio Lorenzoni, left Villa Raspa towards Genova and ended up going to Santa Catarina. After that, she went to the Rio Grande do Sul, where he helped found the fourth colony, historic center of Italian colonization, the only one outside the Serra Gaucha, which received the immigrant families from the end of the 19th century.
“My great-grandfather, along with his parents, brothers and cousins, was among the first to open trails in the region. The first cross placed on Silveira Martins it was by his hands, Giulio”, highlights Onyx.
The story of the travels and discoveries of Giulio Lorenzoni between Italy and Brazil is in the book Memoirs of an Italian Emigrant, published in Portuguese and Italian, which is based on the diaries he wrote since he was 15 years old.

Passion for botany
According to Onyx Lorenzoni, after exploring the central region of the state, his great-grandfather went to Bento Gonçalves, where he went to be a bilingual teacher and ended up working in various activities, including notary and Squire.
But his passion was botany, developed in a self-taught way, as excerpts from his diaries included in the book reveal, with quotes from species of trees, animals e Facilities.
In Bento Gonçalves, Giulio got married and had four children, including Antonio Lorenzoni, father of Rheno Julio Fioravante Lorenzoni, father of Onyx Lorenzoni.

Rheno Lorenzoni went on to youth in Bento Gonçalves, went to São Paulo and then returned to Porto Alegre, where he graduated in veterinary science, was a university professor and married Dalva Dornelles Lorenzoni.
“My parents had two children, me and Mayra, my younger sister, who is a psychoanalyst. I have seven children, four biological, two stepdaughters and one adopted from my heart. And I have five grandchildren, which will continue to offspring”, He adds.
The eldest son, Rodrigo Lorenzoni, state deputy for Rio Grande do Sul, is also degree in veterinary medicine, as well as his father and grandfather.
“We have a veterinary hospital 70 years ago in Porto Alegre, one of the oldest establishments in Rio Grande do Sul. Today he is dedicated to taking care of pets, but in the past we took care of equines e bovine. My father specialized in horses and I specialized in cattle reproduction”, says Onyx.

The trajectory and the search for roots
Born in Porto Alegre in October 3th, 1954, Onyx started in public life presiding over the Union of Veterinary Doctors, helping to found the Federation of the category and leading several entities linked to the profession. In 1987, at the invitation of the then federal deputy Guilherme Afif Domingos, joined the Liberal Party (PL).
Since then, it has been a long trajectory, which includes two terms of state deputy and five of Congressman, a total of 28 years in both parliaments.
Last year he was candidate for governor of Rio Grande do Sul. He went to the second round, but ended up not winning the elections, which ended with Eduardo Leite (PSDB) in first place.
“That was when I decided to take a sabbatical period and get to know my Italian roots. Castelcucco is a beautiful place, which I will forever carry in my heart. THE Veneto It is a beautiful region with a wonderful people. It was an extraordinary experience,” she concluded.
