Giorgia Meloni, Ursula von der Leyen and Taylor Swift are among the 100 most powerful women in the world.

Forbes released its twentieth annual ranking of 100 most powerful women in the world. The women present in the 2023 ranking represent six categories: business, technology, finance, media and entertainment, politics and philanthropy.

Giorgia Meloni, leader of the Fratelli d'Italia and the first woman in history to hold the position of Prime Minister of Italy (she has been in office since October 2022), thus won fourth place among the most powerful women in the world.

Margherita della Valle is the other Italian in the prestigious Forbes ranking. CEO of Vodafone, she ranks 42nd.

The only Brazilian woman on the list of 100 most powerful women in the world é Tarciana Paula Gomes Medeiros, 45, president of Banco do Brasil. She occupies 24th position.

To determine the ranking within each category, as well as the overall ranking in the list of 100, Forbes applied four metrics: money, media, cultural impact and areas of influence.

For political leaders, GDP and population were evaluated. For business leaders, revenue, ratings, and employee count. For all of them, media mentions and social reach were analyzed. The result is a list of 100 women who shape the policies, products, and social struggles that define our world.

These struggles include women's reproductive autonomy in America, girls' access to education in Afghanistan and personal rights in Iran, protection from gender-based violence in conflict zones like Ucrania and Gaza, and an enforceable climate policy that protects the health and well-being of women in low-income, agriculture-based economies.

Of particular note is the insertion in the hundredth position of… a doll! Yes, it's Barbie, chosen for the profound cultural impact she had, especially this year, after the release of the film that broke all box office records and marked a new chapter in the history of female empowerment.
