The 2024 edition of the “Borghi da vivere” (“Villages to Live in”) guide presented more than 280 travel ideas in Italy that completely escape the main centers clogged with Tourists.

The proposals presented focus on small towns or villages with less than 15 thousand inhabitants, located in mountains or fields that are not on the coast.

The selection is certified by the Touring Club Italiano, a centuries-old association that promotes tourism and travel culture in the Belpaese, and which marks the selected locations with an “orange flag”.

“The centres we have verified and supported are excellent, although some are isolated or very small, such as Bergolo, which has just over 50 inhabitants, [but] they have managed to translate shared values into concrete and virtuous examples of social innovation, cooperation and the circular economy”, explains Isabella Andrighetti, coordinator of the “orange flag” initiative.

The person in charge also highlights that the villages “are not postcards from the past, but living and dynamic realities, full of new energy thanks to the many young people who have decided to invest in the future by opening new businesses [in these places]”.

The new guide from the Italian Touring Club, which has also been published in English and German, suggests leisurely visits where tourists can indulge in the pleasure of stopping in squares, visiting recreational clubs, admiring the tree-lined views, or simply watching life go by. And always be surprised by the gatherings and popular celebrations that each place offers. (HANDLE)
